Much like his brother Boz, Wayman presented my lens with such an intense glimpse into the ways that strength and vulnerability co-exist. I often talk to my kids about the nature of courage and how (we all know the quote) it is not in the absence of fear that we are courageous, but in its presence. You can not be brave, without feeling afraid. The expression on Wayman’s face in this image begs the viewer to recognize this beautiful conundrum-- asks you to not only observe his physical feats, but also his vulnerabilities. And to cherish the two, as one.
